We will be having 3 weeks of fun-filled movement activities that your kids will love. Our program is designed to improve weak brain connections by using neuroplasticity and the brains innate ability to re-wire itself based on intensive stimulation.

We will incorporate exercises from various educational training including: Superbrain Yoga, Therapeeds, Ready Bodies Ready minds, INPP, Playproject, Alert Program for self-regulation, Skillastic Soccer & Basketball and many more.

Things you need to know:

• Payment of $2400 is due in full by July 1st. You can pay Ailene or Cindy at the pool if that is convenient. Otherwise, payment is due upon receipt of the invoice. In addition, a weekly invoice will be e-mailed to you reflecting PT and OT group therapy hours. It will be broken down as follows : One hour of OT and one hour of PT @ 75/hour. We will be using the group CPT code of 97150. This weekly invoice for $750 will state paid in full and come via e-mail at the end of each week from billing@angelfishtherapy.com. You can self submit your bill to your flex spending or your insurance if appropriate.
• Your registration, release and health form will also come via e-mail for you to download and send back.
• We will be conducting a research project involving a quick video tape of 5 activities on day one and the same activities on day 15. We will also be performing a quick screening of reflexes, sensory motor skills and a cognitive task. The data will be compiled, ananlyzed, and hopefully published.

• Ability to follow multi-step directions without reminders
• Awareness of body movements: uncoordinated, bumping into things or falling
• Ability to talk while performing a motor skill like jumping and counting
• Automatically cross their hand passed the middle of body during daily tasks
• Ability to start and stop their body in an efficient manner
• Observe your child running, skipping, dancing and galloping using both sides of their body.
• Ability to draw a person with all body parts, write and draw a picture
• Lastly, does your child say “what” frequently when you talk to him

Please jot down a few notes about the above finding prior to coming to camp and review them after camp and again in September to compare.

WHAT:   Keep your Mind Mighty this summer with 3 weeks of movement, music and play. Ailene and Cindy have just gotten back from a seminar called Ready Bodies Ready Minds.  Our camp incorporates systematic, powerful whole body activities designed to improve motor coordination, attention, handwriting, reading, spelling time/money recognition and more. Auditory processing games will improve listening and sound recognition for increased academic improvement. Cooperative, experiential group games will have all campers experience increased self-esteem, friendship and leadership.  A love and logic approach drives our structured, confidence building style.  Using our personal experiences with our own children, we have come up with a brain based eclectic combination of programs sure to get all children on there way to changing their brain.  Research has proven it takes 80-100 hours to change the brain. We will be in constant motion firing up our brains with fun researched based programs pulling from: Orton Gillingham, Floortime, Reflex integration, handwriting without tears, Therapeeds, Yoga and more.  We will start each day with a 15 minute spiritual meditation lead by Father Christopher the leader of St Pauls congregation.

This video demonstrates one on one righting reactions. You will see how the child will work on righting his trunk and work to have reciprocal motion in his leg kicks. All the while responding to his balance.

Working in the water allows children to perform and learn movements that would otherwise be too difficult to do on land.  Returning to their land-based program provides them the opportunity to practice movements which have become more skilled in the water.

Physiological benefits of an 88-92 degree pool include: decreased pain, increased range of motion, decreased sensitivity of sensory nerve endings and increased joint range of motion.

Physiological benefits of vestibular stimulation from buoyancy and resistance include: changing and improving the ability to integrate sensory information.

Viscosity of the water allows time for a child to react and experiment with the consequences of movement.

Hydrostatic pressure improves circulation, increases the work of breathing and gives 360 degrees of deep pressure.

Camp Angelfish is an overnight camp for 3 different types of children. We rent the beautiful facilities on Lake Winnepesaukee and provide traditional camp experiences under the guidance of Co-directors who are occupational and physical therapists.

Children come to this camp with one 24 hour aide or a group of 2 or 3 children share there own aide. Additionally, we offer a sibling program for families to enjoy thie leisure experience.

Who:      Children with challenges and their personal aide.

What:     A 6-day overnight camp opportunity to experience camp activities with the guidance of an OT & PT.  Daily programs consist of 2 morning and 2 afternoon activity periods as well as an evening activity session.

Additionally, a sibling overnight program coincides with the special needs track. A camper/counselor ratio of 5:1 will be maintained in addition to the aide. We have limited this camp to 25 children with a variety of challenges.

We strive to maintain a 50% balance between children with physical challenges and children with social/emotional challenges.

Where:     Camp Angelfish is held at Camp Winaukee on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, located in New Hampshire.

When:     NEW for 2010 – 6 days and 5 nights – Camp dates are  Sunday Aug. 15th, 2010 @ 2PM- Friday Aug. 20th @1PM

Why:     To assist children in leisure activities that promote increased self-esteem, self-confidence and togetherness.

Additionally, many of you are interested in sending your child to overnight camp but have concerns regarding the length of stay. This is your chance to try out overnight camp for a short period of time.

What’s New:     We are excited about starting an intermediate program at camp for higher level children that still need more supervision and structure than a typical sleep away camp experience, but not necessarily a one on one aide—they will be called “the STARFISH”.  Starfish will be in a bunk with 8 kids and will be sharing 2 or 3 counselors- so spread the word to any Starfish you may know.

Also, we have decided to call the campers and companions “the Angelfish” campers and the sibling girls and boys will now be referred to as “the Dolphins” due to their overwhelming abilities to sense when people need help, give support and guidance as well as love to all campers regardless of ability.

**Please note you do not receive direct therapy at camp. You will participate in camp activities and when necessary, a therapist will help you accommodate/adapt to the activity. Ages 6 and up have attended camp with good success. Keep in mind the age ranges from 6 up to 18 years old. Some campers have been coming since the first camp 6 years ago. Many campers have gone on to residential sleep away camp. New and old campers alike will find a spirit of adventure and camaraderie on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee.
