Here’s what people have to say about Camp Mighty Mind:

My son had the privilege of attending Camp Mighty Mind this summer. He has been working with many different therapists through his life to strengthen and support all of his emotional, sensory and developmental needs. Like many other families I have spoken with through the years, the one common goal we all seemed to have for our children is that they feel empowered and confident in themselves. I watched my son’s confidence in himself grow tremendously during the course of Camp Mighty Mind. Through the “success” based approach, my son was pushing through challenges he had struggled with for years. It was especially moving to see him participate in all of the sporting activities that were introduced. I knew there was therapeutic purpose in each movement, but for me it was just seeing him out there having fun and being part of a team. For me the camp provided a very safe and supportive environment for my child to finally have these “typical” experiences and to succeed. By success, I mean to feel confident to participate with joy and happiness and purpose. Also to gain the very valuable gift of being included on a team and learning from your peers, teaching your peers and perhaps even leading your peers.

Once school began, it was clear that “something” had changed. My son was able to sit with an activity for longer periods of time. His focus was more sharp and he was enjoying new ways of engaging with different types of materials. Not only were things integrating more readily, but his newfound confidence just made the combination even more remarkable. These little successes are monumental in our lives and I know that the connections that were woken up at Camp Mighty Minds made powerful changes in my son’s life.

One more thing that made all the difference at Camp Mighty Minds is the people. Ailene and Cindy were ridiculously energetic, compassionate and brilliant. The support staff was equally warm and engaging. My son is looking forward to coming back to CMM this summer to see all of you!

My 7 year old daughter has been with Angelfish Therapy most of her life. It is hard to believe that she was tiny with developmental delays when she arrived. She started at Angelfish, terrified of water and basically non-verbal. She has hypotonia and sensory issues. To meet her today, you would see this strapping young lady who is friendly, sociable, and chatty. The word intervention does not begin to describe all the different avenues we tried, traditional and non-traditional. I was frequently confronted with “it is what it is” or “why are you trying so hard to get a diagnosis”. I knew something was askew and my goal has been to make sure my daughter will always be comfortable with who she is. The aquatic therapy started a truly effective intervention process, and CAMP MIGHTY MIND enhanced it and brought it full circle. My daughter has always asked why she cannot go to CAMP MIGHTY MIND all year round. A brilliant request as this camp helps socially, academically, and physically, with the underlying theme of “you can do it”. The camp recognizes the children’s individual strengths and weaknesses and works with each child to move forward with his/her own successes. I will be forever thankful to Cindy and Aileen. How about a Mighty Mind School, ladies???

My son first did Mighty Mind at 5 years old. Immediately after camp, many friends and family commented on his improved gross motor skills in the playground. He had always been half a field behind his peers when running its length. Suddenly he was just a third behind and running smoothly. He started to take risks on the jungle gym like standing on swings and climbing, things he had never wanted to attempt before. He was more motivated, willing and confident to play outside with his peers.

While he was in camp, we continued with his speech therapy. His long term therapist had never seen him so engaged and fluent.

Being one of the younger children that year, he initially came home exhausted and reluctant to return. After the first week that suddenly changed. My son had made some amazing friends of various ages, and had never been happier or more accepted.

He returned last year and from day one he loved every second of it. He never complained he was tired or that there was hard work to be done. He just spoke of friends, baseball and fun. The camaraderie between the campers, counselors and therapists is a joy to behold.

A few days after camp finished this year, my son picked up a pen and drew a stick figure and wrote “go”. He had never been close to forming anything recognizable with a pen before. It was such a quantum leap in skill that could only be explained by something deep within his brain integrating. I am convinced that the exercises and modalities they use at camp are making differences in my child’s brain and helping him access things he wouldn’t otherwise have been able to.

Hi Cindy,

My husband and I were so impressed with the improvement in our son after Camp Mighty Mind. Active games were always a challenge and he had little motivation to participate. After Camp he became much stronger, coordinated and more importantly more confident. We found him outside in the yard initiating a game of catch or basketball with his brother. We were overjoyed with his progress! Furthermore, my son was unable to read any words in his daily routine before Camp Mighty Minds. Afterwards, we found him reading many sight words throughout the day, very impressive. It was definitely money well spent and we look forward to more Camp Mighty Minds in the future!

Best,
Christine
